New Training Index

I have begun the building of mini Training Guides. The index of these guides will be cataloged on the Training Index page. I am open to suggestions on topics and training guides that you may want to review. Drop me a suggestion on any topic you may want help on.

Z-Pulley Setup Guide

This is the first guide that I produced. Please look it over and study the process. I hope to practice this essential technique when we meet as a group between now and when we have our formal training on Mount Rainier. If you find this guide to be hard to follow, or you need clarification, please suggest ways that I can improve the presentation to you.

Time Line Survey Results

It looks like we are in favor of having an extra day at Camp Muir to rest and practice our skills. I have to agree, that our best shot at the summit is when we are rested after the hike to Camp Muir. What I will suggest, is that we leave the schedule as-is, but allow us the chance to adjust it once we are at Camp Muir. It will not affect our planning and I feel no pressure to adhere to a strict schedule.

Our goal is Mount Rainier first and Mount Hood second. As I previously mentioned, Mount Hood may not work out if the conditions deteriorate to a state that it is not safe.

Mount Rainier Permit Update

I have submitted the Wilderness and Climbing permit covering the dates of August 1st - 4th. Along with the permit, I paid a fee totaling $380 which is $30 per person for the climbing permit, plus a $20 one time reservation fee.

On April 1st, the rangers will begin assigning the permits. I should have the completed permit around April 15th.

Next Newsletter

Volume 6, I want to begin the detailing of my pack contents. It is helpful to see what I will bring which you can use as a guideline to your pack. Over packing is very easy to do as I have done on my first trips to Mount Rainier. Maybe what I have learned can be of use to your own situations.

The newsletter will also start the suggestions on what foods to bring. This includes individual and team suggestions.
